Did you know that all septic systems recycle your household wastewater usage? After the wastewater moves through the system, it is treated and then the liquids are returned to the earth. In conventional systems, this happens after the liquids have moved through the drainfield and eventually make it to our aquifers. In aerobic systems, the treated wastewater is distributed though spray heads onto the lawn that are connected to the system. Either way, the treated wastewater becomes a part of the natural water cycle.

If your house is supplied by a private water well, it is important that your septic system is functioning properly, being maintained properly, and has the proper setbacks from the well.

Testing of you water can be accomplished through a water well company, or even the homeowner. Typically, the water is tested for general coliform bacteria and e-coli. To learn more about these tests, contact your local water testing lab. Most tests require specific bottles and temperatures with in a specific time frame when being delivered.
